Race in America

Controversies, fights, immigrants. That’s all we really hear around the world now. We hear about some dumb guy who is trying to burn the Koran, and then we hear about immigrant people being sent back to where they came from.

Lately I have been hearing a controversy about the building of the Islamic mosque in New York City. There are some Islamic people that want to build a mosque two blocks away from ground zero, which is where the twin towers were, and where many people died. Lisa Miller said, that many politicians are using the grief of the 9/11 families to defend what they have to say. Actor/activist, Stephen Baldwin says that the mosque should not be built, because of “common sense, why do it if it’s going to cause more problems.” “Why continue if people are getting offended.” On the other hand Rabbi Mathew Gewirtz says “the Islam might also get offended because they are in America, and they have the right to build anything, anywhere, that’s why people came here”

Some of the issues that are going on, are that some people or the families of the 9/11 families are getting offended. Some are saying how can they be building that here you killed my husband or son or a family member. Some are also saying that if they build the mosque there it might be the start of a night mare for them, just the thought of seeing them there, the people, the killers, it’s hard. “Have some respect for the families who died there.”

The burning of Koran is something that is important for Rev. Terry Jones, and his congregation. But it doesn’t seem very important to the troops and to the Islamic families. Terry has also been saying that Islam is of the devil. "How much do we back down? How many times do we back down?" Jones told the AP. "Instead of us backing down, maybe it's to time to stand up. Maybe it's time to send a message to radical Islam that we will not tolerate their behavior."

Immigration in this country is beginning to be scary for many families whether they are Mexican, African American, doesn’t matter where they are from. You can always find news about immigration. Sometimes you see the immigration police hitting them and treating them badly, it’s sad.

The controversy of the Islamic mosque, the burning of the Koran, and immigration tie up together and make a huge ball of mess. These three situations happening in this world are very much alike in many ways. One of the reasons is that someone will get hurt, for example if the Islamic people build the mosque there, the families in the 9/11 incident will probably get mad and some will probably want to do something to them. The guy who wants to burn the Koran will most likely get killed, shot, or hurt, there are many people who disagree with the burning of the Koran, and immigrant people always end up getting hurt in some way.
